LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Since the U.S. Supreme Court struck down Roe v. Wade on Friday and returned abortion regulations to individual states, Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has vowed to “fight like hell” to prevent state’s 1931 abortion ban from taking effect.

Whitmer’s focus in one third of her press releases over the last five days are related to abortion rights, injunctive lawsuits, or contraception.

In addition, Whitmer’s office has tweeted at least 19 times in the last five days regarding that topic, including video clips of the various talk shows where the governor reiterated similar points.

On the day SCOTUS released the Dobbs decision, Whitmer wrote this sentence: “I will not give in or give up for my kids, your kids, and the future of our great state.

That does not include the several press releases Whitmer’s office sent in the days leading up to the Dobbs decision, which highlighted contraception and her legal intentions if SCOTUS struck down Roe v. Wade.

On Wednesday, Whitmer stopped short of demanding that private insurance companies make sure women have what she called “reproductive health care to the fullest extent possible under current coverage.”

A Michigan judge granted a preliminary injunction last month in a suit brought by Planned Parenthood against Michigan’s 1931 law abortion ban.

This injunction temporarily blocks the abortion ban from taking effect, but cases are pending to determine where Michigan stands.
