ST. IGNACE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Upper Peninsula jobless rate fell from 5.8 percent in April to 5.2 percent in May, according to the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget.
Dickinson County boasted the lowest unemployment at 3.9 percent, while Ontonagon came in with the highest percentage of 7.8 percent.
The increase in those working across the U.P. usually fluctuates during the late spring and summer because the tourist season picks up with seasonal jobs.
The U.P.’s unemployment numbers are higher than the state average of 4.6 percent; Michigan’s average is higher than the national average of 3.6 percent.
