LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon has chalked up another major endorsement in her bid to win the state primary election next month.

Dixon received backing from the Detroit News on Friday. She’ll add that to her growing list of endorsements from the DeVos family, Michigan Right to Life, the Michigan Chamber of Commerce, Associated Builders and Contractors, Police Officers Association of Michigan, American Conservative Union, Ambassador Ric Grenell, U.S. Reps. Lisa McClain and Bill Huizenga, and more than a dozen state legislators.

The Detroit News spelled out its reasoning: “In choosing one over the others, we looked for the individual who demonstrates the potential between now and November to grow into a candidate who can not only excite voters, but also demonstrates the ability to unify Michigan and bring consensus governing to Lansing. We believe that candidate is Tudor Dixon.”

The media outlet went on to say “Dixon comes across as sincere, optimistic and relatable. She understands how the pandemic stresses of the past two years have impacted Michigan families. She’s not likely to be a governor who issues ‘do as I say’ edicts and then ignores them herself.”

The four other GOP governor hopefuls on the ballot are picking up support as well. Ryan Kelley announced on Friday that the Michigan Coalition for Freedom is backing his campaign. Ralph Rebandt’s campaign boasts endorsements from SE Michigan Chiefs of Police, Godvoter.org, and Mike Lindell. Kevin Rinke is rocking his race for governor with support from Michigan native and musician Ted Nugent. Garrett Soldano, who organized the grassroots organization “Stand Up Michigan” during Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s 2020 COVID-19 shutdown, appears to have more individual supporters than official endorsements.

However, recent polling is showing where the Michigan governor’s race may end up. Last week a new poll found Dixon, Rinke, and Kelley in a statistical three-way tie for the state’s top job.

Steve Mitchell with Mitchell Research released this statement regarding the MIRS-issued poll: “A political action committee that supports Tudor Dixon has been advertising on TV in the Detroit media market for more than a week. Dixon has 28% of the vote in the Detroit market.”

Michigan’s primary election is August 2.
