WASHINGTON, D.C. (Great Lakes News) – Fewer Americans applied for unemployment benefits last week, lowering claims to 900,000.
However, the Thursday report from the U.S. Labor Department points to further job cuts.
President Joe Biden has an uphill battle after inheriting an economy that faltered while his Democrat counterparts shut down the economy for months at a time. That includes Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer.
As one of Biden’s first acts as president, he killed the Keystone XL pipeline project, with the company estimating it will have to lay off at least 1,000 workers.
U.S. government officials said 5.1 million Americans are continuing to receive state jobless benefits.
