LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – Funeral homes in Michigan are calling for loosened restrictions so more families and friends can grieve loved ones.

Michigan currently has the tightest restrictions on limits. Currently, only 25 people can attend a funeral.

The state of Illinois allows 50 people while nearby Ohio has no limits.

Heritage Life Story Funeral Homes Vice President Matt Hollebeek says more people are allowed to attend the luncheon than the funeral itself.

Funeral homes, along with small businesses, restaurants, and wedding venues have been hammered in the past year thanks to Governor Gretchen Whitmer and her administration’s lockdowns.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services did not indicate it has any plans to reconsider the funeral home restrictions.
