LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – Thousands of potentially life-saving COVID-19 vaccines have gone to waste in Michigan, making their way into the garbage instead of people’s arms.

According to data from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS), 2,326 doses of vaccines have been wasted in Michigan through March 29, 2021.

Officials say it accounts for less than .05% of the 5 million vaccines distributed around the state.

On Monday, vaccines opened to Michiganders as young as 16-years-old.

In the meantime, travel can now be added to the list of activities that Americans can enjoy again, according to new guidance from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The CDC update says fully vaccinated people can travel within the U.S. without getting tested for the coronavirus or going into quarantine afterward.

Previously, the agency had cautioned against unnecessary travel even for vaccinated people.

Unvaccinated people are still advised to avoid unnecessary travel.
