LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) have implemented new and extended restrictions, and this time young children are being targeted.
Starting April 26th, children as young as two-years-old must wear masks at daycares and camps, leaving childcare workers and teachers wondering how they’ll enforce the state’s mandates with such young kids.

Whitmer and MDHHS also also extended capacity limits for restaurants through May 24. Restaurants will be expected to continue operating at 50 percent capacity. The 11 p.m. curfew to close indoor dining service also remains. Those orders had been set to expire today.
Justin Winslow with the Michigan Restaurant and Lodging Association (MRLA), which represents the hospitality industry, seemed to empathize with state officials instead of the businesses the group represents. Winslow wrote in a Facebook post, “We laud the difficult, but appropriate decision today to extend the existing Epidemic Order.”
Meanwhile, Whitmer made the rounds on Sunday’s news programs, where she continued to blame Michiganders for not following her coronavirus protocols and contributing to a recent spike in cases.
“We are 15 months into this and people are tired and dropping the protocols,” Whitmer said.
Whitmer also appeared to play the victim as she blamed the Michigan Legislature and the Michigan Supreme Court for trying to constitutionally balance the powers of the executive branch.
“I don’t have all the exact same tools ([now as I did last year],” Whitmer said.
Whitmer is referring to the October 2020 Michigan Supreme Court decision which ruled a 1945 and 1976 law as unconstitutional. Whitmer used both those laws as the basis of her unending lockdown orders.
Three days later, Whitmer appeared to ignore the Michigan Supreme Court ruling. Whitmer uncovered a 1918 Spanish Flu law and mobilized MDHHS to carry out her same orders.
