GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – The former assistant superintendent of Grand Haven Area Public Schools died at the Ottawa County jail overnight.

The news of 56-year-old Brian Wheeler’s death came Friday morning.

Wheeler worked in the district for more than two decades.

The district fired him in November following an embezzlement investigation where authorities say he stole more than $1 million.
