LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) Director Elizabeth Hertel is ordering nursing homes to offer on-site booster shots to residents who aren’t up to date on the COVID-19 vaccine.
The facilities must comply within 30 days.

Roughly 75 percent of eligible nursing home residents have received a booster dose. However, the order doesn’t require nursing home residents to be vaccinated.
Hertel’s order comes the same week that the Michigan Auditor General released a report showing Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and her administration undercounted COVID-19 deaths in nursing homes during the height of the pandemic.
