GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – On its fifth day of deliberations, a jury found Daniel Harris and Brandon Caserta not guilty in the kidnapping plot trial of Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

A mistrial was declared in the cases against Adam Fox and Barry Croft after the jury deadlocked on their charges.

Fox and Croft will be taken back to jail; Harris and Caserta are officially free men.

Prosecutors will decide whether to charge Fox and Croft again.

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s Chief of Staff JoAnne Huls released this statement Friday after the verdicts: “Today, Michiganders and Americans—especially our children—are living through the normalization of political violence. The plot to kidnap and kill a governor may seem like an anomaly. But we must be honest about what it really is: the result of violent, divisive rhetoric that is all too common across our country.”

The not guilty verdicts of Harris and Caserta came down the same week as the acquittal of New Mexico resident Matthew Martin. He is the first person charged in connection to the January 6, 2021 attack on the U.S. Capitol who has been acquitted on all charges.
