LANSING, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – Governor Gretchen Whitmer penned a letter to the U.S. Department of Energy on Wednesday, and urged the deployment of federal resources to keep the Palisades nuclear energy facility open in Van Buren County.

In a press release, Whitmer said the funds from the Civil Nuclear Credit program would lower energy costs and shore up Michigan’s energy needs. In addition, she expressed concern over the 600 people who work at the plant.
