GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Great Lakes News) – Thousands of Michigan GOP leaders are gathering in Grand Rapids on Saturday to decide which candidates will make it onto November’s ballot.

In Michigan, party delegates nominate candidates for most statewide offices at party conventions rather than holding primaries. These bigger name offices to be nominated at the convention include attorney general and secretary of state.

The party will formally nominate those candidates in August.

In other races, voters will determine who makes it out of the pack on August 2, which is the state’s primary election.

Currently, voters will have a choice of narrowing down a field of ten Republican candidates who are seeking to oust Gov. Gretchen Whitmer from her job in November.
