PETOSKEY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Petoskey District Library and the LGBTQ Alliance of Petoskey are partnering together on Tuesday for a two-in-one event to highlight reading and support the LGBTQ community.

“The library is supportive of civil discourse,” said Petoskey District Library Director Valerie Meyerson. “This is a way for people to come together and have conversations.”

Meyerson explained that people can meet at the library grounds on Tuesday afternoon at 5 p.m. and then walk to the People’s Park in a show of support for the LGBTQ community.

In addition, the library is kicking off its 2022 Summer Read program with the hashtag “support their stories.” It features the book “Last Night at the Telegraph Club” by Malinda Lo.

“The book is a great family read,” Meyerson said. “It’s great for young adults and adults [and] it’s a sweet book about a coming of age.”

Meyerson said there hasn’t been pushback from the community, and anything handed out at the event has been funded by the “Friends of the Library,” which is a 501 (c) (3).
