WASHINGTON (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Dairy Farmers are working together to save a dying industry. 

With fewer Americans drinking milk than ever before, the price of milk is falling, and farms are closing.

Congress writes a new farm bill every five years; it signed the last one in 2018. That means a new one will have to be passed next year.

Michigan farmers are pushing  the “Dairy Revitalization Plan”, hoping for it to be included in the next year’s federal farm bill. They say the plan would help farmers stay afloat. 

In 2018, there were around 1,500 dairy farmers registered in Michigan. That number has dropped to to roughly 1,000.
