LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan’s Democratic Governor Gretchen Whitmer has put out a call to all Michigan government departments to register voters so that eligible voters won’t miss out on “an opportunity to participate fully in our democracy.”
She announced the Executive Directive 2022-4 at the NAACP’s Freedom Fund Dinner in Detroit in August of 2021 and a response from the departments was due back to her office on June 30th.

In her Executive Order, Whitmer asked for a “whole-of-government” approach to voter registration as she believes departments other than the Secretary of State can have a role in voting initiatives.
Whitmer has even encouraged the state departments to let their employees take off Election Day to work at the polls or at a minimum be able to get an hour off to vote during their work day.
Whitmer sent out a memo with a four-page questionnaire to the departments which appears to target specific democrat voting blocs.
Some of the questions included how many people their departments serve, if those people are black, homeless or can’t read and if they had just gotten out of prison or have a criminal record.
Whitmer asked her departments and agencies to answer the questions and give her a report on their impending activities by the end of June.
Activities could include putting up voter displays, distributing vote-by-mail apps or even helping voters complete their registration forms.
