LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and officials with the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) say they’re working to clear up any confusion about the difference between preventative contraception and medication abortion.

Whitmer said in a press release on Wednesday that she hopes the campaign will “combat any misinformation.”

“Women deserve to have control over decisions about their bodies and lives,” Whitmer said. “The fall of Roe v. Wade is leaving many with questions about their access to health care.”

Abortion remains legal in Michigan because of a temporary injunction issued by a Michigan Court of Claims judge.

Tudor Dixon, one of five GOP gubernatorial hopefuls looking to unseat Gov. Whitmer in November, has received the endorsement from Michigan Right to Life. It is the state’s largest pro-life PAC.

“Are we really going to convince women that a baby will take good things away from them?” Dixon said. “The only thing [Whitmer] has is fear – and the fear to believe that women can’t afford a family. [My campaign] will come around companies to support women, not scare them away from families.”

Emergency contraception is not affected by the Roe ruling. Information on the campaign can be found here.
