LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – It’s being widely reported in the media that a resolution was “introduced” Wednesday by Michigan House Representative Democrat Joe Tate of Detroit that asks the United States Department of Justice, including the United States Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, to investigate 11 Republican members of the Michigan House of Representatives for the crime of seditious conspiracy.
At the time this article went to press, that resolution was not listed on the Michigan Legislature website with an actual resolution number. The only copy of the resolution appearing online with the news media was a draft version.
Michigan News Source reached out to Tate’s office to get a resolution number and to see if the resolution has actually been turned in but our calls were not returned.
The resolution appears to be a symbolic move as it would face strong headwinds to get passed in the GOP-controlled House.
The representatives named in the resolution are all Republicans and include Gary Eisen (St. Clair
Twp.), John Reilly (Oakland Twp.), Julie Alexander (Hanover), Matt Maddock (Milford), Daire Rendon
(Lake City), Beth Griffin (Mattawan), Michel Hoitenga (Manton), Brad Paquette (Berrien Springs),
Rodney Wakeman (Frankenmuth), Greg Markkanen (Hancock) and Jack O’Malley (Lake Ann).
The resolution points to a false electors plot and republicans who signed on to an amicus brief filed by
the state of Texas after the November 2020 election as proof of seditious behavior.
Tate says, “These were crimes, plain and simple, committed by our public servants and in the halls of
our own state Capitol. Each of these Republican lawmakers knew what they were doing, working to
overturn the free and fair presidential election, to keep the corrupt former president in power.”
He went on to say that “eleven sitting members of the House of Representatives conspired against
democracy, the people of Michigan, and the peaceful transition of power that has upheld our republic
and our way of life since the days of George Washington.”
Tate accuses the republicans of conspiring to overthrow the Government of the United States and
delaying the execution of the laws of the country relating to the certification of the votes of the
Electoral College.
Rep. Jack O’Malley released a statement about the resolution and his part in signing on to the amicus
brief. He said, “I wanted to exhaust every avenue to deliver the facts to the people, and in some
cases hard truths. To suggest this sentiment amounts to seditious activity is nothing more than a
desperate political hit job as we head into the fall.”
