LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan’s primary election is Tuesday, Aug. 2 and that means voters in the Great Lakes State have two weeks to prepare.

The deadline to register online to vote has passed, but eligible citizens can register at their local clerk’s office up until 8 p.m. on Election Day.

Many absentee ballots have already been mailed out, but those who want to request one must do so by Friday, July 29.

The same deadlines apply for the November 8 general election. That means residents must register at least 15 days prior to that Election Day and request an absentee ballot by the Friday before heading to the polls.

The Secretary of State’s office is encouraging people to vote early rather than wait until Election Day. In addition, they said sending an absentee ballot in the mail now can be risky with the election only two weeks away.

In the 2020 election, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson encouraged residents to vote early and submit their absentee ballot to various drop boxes around the state. This website encourages Michiganders to do the same.

Michigan voters will pick their choice of candidate ranging from governor to local representatives and decide various ballot initiatives on August 2.

In addition, Michigan only allows voters to cast a ballot for one political party in the primary election.
