LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel said a review of body camera footage, surveillance footage, reports from multiple different departments, and other documents revealed no charges will be brought against East Lansing police officers for an incident that occurred in a grocery store parking lot.

In a press conference on Wednesday, Nessel said officers believed DeAnthony VanAtten showed a reasonable threat to them in the parking lot of an East Lansing Meijer on April 25. Therefore, no charges will be sought.

In addition, Union Director Brad Richman stated, “The officers involved in this unfortunate incident are dedicated public servants. It is our expectation that [East Lansing] will promptly return the officers to full duty.”
