GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Grand Rapids school leaders are faced with some big challenges due to declining enrollment.
School officials are considering all options including closing buildings, renovating or constructing new buildings to better fit the districts needs.
Grand Rapids schools has seen a 30% decrease in enrollment in the last 14 years.
It is currently utilizing 53% of it’s buildings space; the state recommends maintaining an 85% utilization level.
No changes are expected before the 2024-25 school year.
The district will hold town hall meetings and conduct online surveys to gather community feedback as they move forward.
