KALAMAZOO, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Citizens in Kalamazoo may soon be paying more for their water.

City commissioners are in conversations over a proposed rate hike to make up for an estimated $1 million in operating costs for 2022 as compared to an earlier estimate.

The proposal would increase water and sewer bills by 20%. If approved, the wastewater system increase would take effect on October 1, 2022. The water system increase would change on Jan. 1, 2023.

The increases would affect all rate classes and customer types.
