ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Co-Offensive Coordinator and offensive line coach Sherrone Moore is optimistic about the 2022 season. It will be is second year as the offensive line coach and first full year calling plays for the Wolverines.

“Everything has been good (helping call plays), it’s been fur and enjoying the process. The staff has been great. It’s been refreshing to get back to the players and I’m loving it”, says Moore.

Moore takes over play calling duties after Josh Gattis left Michigan not on great terms in February for Miami.

“There will be some different things from last year that won’t be like Gattis,” said Moore. “We’re good. It’s been an easy transition. Everybody bounces ideas off of each other. It’s been good. It’s a little bit more for me but it’s been great for me.”

There will be a tough decision to make for Moore at the quarterback position with a battle between J.J. McCarthy and Cade McNamara. Combined they threw for over 3,000 yards and 20 touchdowns. Michigan’s offense was second in the Big Ten last year averaging 35.8 points per game and third in total offense at 443.1 yards per game.

“Yeah, we’ll be collaborative. We have a method to how we’re doing things, we’ve been pretty smooth so far. And it’s just been rolling, the kids really adjusted, and everything’s been good,” said Moore about running and calling the offense.

Michigan is once again looking at a two quarterback system as they are very mum on who has the lead to start. Moore talks about the two quarter system say, “I mean, we just set our plan. And we have a plan, and we just try to execute it as best as we could. And we’ve continued to do that. And it’s all about rhythm, finding a rhythm of what you’re doing. And we feel like we’re in a really good place. And we’re just going to continue to strive and add to that to make that perfect for game one.”

Both quarterbacks will have a playmaker back in Ronnie Bell who was out last year after an injury. The fifth-year player has amassed 1,380 yards receiving with his best year in 2019 with 758 yards receiving and one touchdown.

“He’s been great, he’s been great. Mindset’s been great, leadership qualities great and he looks like he’s his old self out there so he’s been outstanding,” said Moore on Bell.

Moore will have offensive weapons this year to use, again, but time will tell if his play calling will be as strong as Gattis. Michigan opens up the season on September 3 vs. Colorado State at 12:00 p.m.
