LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – On Sunday, August 21st, on the lawn of Michigan’s State Capitol, a joint service team will embark on a veteran inspired journey of remembrance across the country. They will receive a send-off by the Michigan National Guard in Lansing and they will cross the United States, making stops in a dozen cities along the way.

Project RELO’s Task Force Tribute is a 7000+ mile journey across the United States in honor and remembrance of those who have fallen since 9/11. There will be one mile crossed for every person lost and the funds raised will go to building a virtual memorial that is dedicated to those who serve, have served and who have given their all.

The Task Force Tribute journey will end in Washington DC on September 11th. Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer and other dignitaries will be included in the Honor the Fallen ceremony presented by the Michigan National Guard as well as the Task Force Tribute send-off.

The ceremony will include a Task Force Tribute speaker, a list of the names of the fallen, a 21-gun salute, Taps and other activities. The public is welcome and the event is free of charge.

Sinclair Broadcast Group is partnering with the non-profit organization Project RELO on the Task Force Tribute project as a media partner. Their newsrooms across the country will produce news coverage to air on their local stations and on The National Desk, their national news program.

According to Sinclair, as the journey moves from city to city, the task force will collect and memorialize the stories of military members as they build the network and partnerships that will aid in the construction of an immersive and comprehensive virtual memorial. They say the memorial “will be built upon the stories and perspectives from veterans and their families and have the ability to connect the archives of the many
institutions that have been similarly collecting our veterans’ stories over the years.”

Project RELO is a non-profit organization out of Grayling, Michigan that was founded in 2016 to focus on improving the quality and number of career opportunities being made available to veterans. They are committed to helping veterans and business leaders partner for success with education and providing networking opportunities for them to connect with one another.
