LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson’s office still has not released court-ordered documents from a FOIA request nearly four years in the making.
Tori Sachs, current head of the Michigan Freedom Fund, told Michigan News Source she submitted FOIA requests when she worked for Michigan Rising Action.

Sachs penned an op-ed piece in the Detroit News in July, stating the documents she requested are tied to Benson’s “handling of massive campaign finance violations by her political ally, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, and a nonprofit that illegally ran television ads supporting Whitmer’s campaign for governor in 2018.”
Two courts have ordered that Benson release the documents. As of press time, those documents had not been released.
Benson’s office told Michigan News Source in July, “We have no comment as we continue to review the ruling.”
Information about Michigan FOIA requests can be found here. It states, “Michigan’s Freedom of Information Act provides that all persons are entitled to full and complete information as to a public body’s fulfillment of statutory functions and concerning the inner working of government in general.”
