LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The general election is two months from today, and while Attorney General Dana Nessel has stated she won’t debate her “white supremacist” GOP opponent Matt DePerno, she is asking a third party to investigate him.

Last month, Nessel’s office asked the Prosecuting Attorneys Coordinating Council to consider charges against nine people, including DePerno. Nessel’s office cited a potential conflict of interest if she investigated the case directly because of the upcoming election.

Special prosecutor D.J. Hilson, the prosecuting attorney in Muskegon County, will handle the case.

In the past, DePerno has called Nessel’s claims “political.”
