MUSKEGON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Muskegon City Commission has voted to update the city’s flag policy and only fly flags on government buildings that represent the city, county, state, or nation.
According to the commission, they do not want to play favorites or look like the city is endorsing a specific cause, like Pride Month.
Per the vote, only government flags will fly over city and county buildings.
Notes from the September 13, 2022 meeting the City of Muskegon’s website states:
“Based on the Attorney’s recommendation, staff felt it necessary to recommend changes to our current flag policy. The proposed policy would not allow the flying of any flags with the exception of United States of America, State of Michigan, the County of Muskegon, the City of Muskegon flag, a Sister Cities of the City of Muskegon flag, and visiting dignitaries from the Embassy and/or Consulate that are formally acknowledged by the Mayor and/or City Commission.”
