GWINN, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Gwinn Area School Board in Marquette County is discussing a new flag policy that would ban gay pride flags from classrooms.

Supporters of the ban say the flag has become a political symbol, and it should not be allowed in classrooms.

School Board President, John Waldo stated Gwinn is an inclusive school district, and any flag that is divisive should not be allowed in a school.

Those against the policy change say the flag is a symbol of inclusivity. Banning it would lead to students being scared to express themselves.

Gwinn School Board Secretary, Ashley Jenema said removing the flag would create more division, more fear and more prejudice.

No action item has been presented for a vote.  Their next board meeting is October 17.
