PORT HURON, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – As Canada lifted limitations for people crossing the border, two international bridge crossings in Michigan unveiled new tolling systems this week.

Locations in Sault Ste. Marie and Port Huron have now installed a pre-paid, scanner version. It’s similar to the system installed at the Mackinac Bridge.

Under a $9.3 million contract, officials say the new systems will make transition easier and more efficient for travelers on both sides of the borders.

Over time, bridge operators plan to fade out the old card system and move to just the new scan system.
