LAKE ODESSA, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Right to Life Michigan has sent out a press release saying that one of their volunteers, an elderly 83-year-old woman from Lake Odessa, Michigan, was shot in the back/shoulder while leaving a residence during a heated conversation about Proposal 3, the Reproductive Freedom for All Proposal.

The proposal, which will appear on Michigan ballots in November, enshrines certain reproductive and
abortion “rights” into the Michigan Constitution.

Right to Life Michigan says that the pro-life woman had been going door-to-door in her community to discuss the proposal and was shot after leaving a residence by a man who wasn’t involved in the conversation. The elderly woman has been reported as not knowing who the man is or why he shot her.

The state police talked to Fox News Digital and confirmed that she was shot after a “verbal altercation while she was passing out pamphlets.”

The victim, who has asked to remain anonymous, is recovering from her gunshot wounds. She had driven herself away from the crime scene to report the incident to the police and then was taken to an area hospital.

The Michigan State Police are investigating the incident and will forward any results to the Ionia County
Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.

Right to Life Michigan official Chris Gast told Fox News Digital “We’re glad the victim is recovering and
our volunteers will continue knocking doors on Proposal 3.”

The Reproductive Freedom for All organization says that the proposal “will affirm that every person has the fundamental right to reproductive freedom, which involves the right to make and carry out decisions without political interference about all matters relating to pregnancy, including birth control, abortion, prenatal care and childbirth” and that the measure “will ensure that all Michiganders have the right to safe and respectful care during birthing, everyone has the right to use temporary or permanent birth control, everyone has the right to continue or end a pregnancy pre-viability, and no one can be punished for having a miscarriage, stillbirth or abortion.”

Right to Life Michigan says, “The Reproductive Freedom for All proposed constitutional amendment is not about reproductive freedom, which already exists. Planned Parenthood and the ACLU’s amendment would radically distort Michigan’s Constitution to create a new unlimited right to abortion, which would spill over and affect many other issues. This poorly-worded amendment would repeal dozens of state laws, including our state’s ban on tax-funded abortions, the partial-birth abortion ban, and fundamentally alter the parent-child relationship by preventing parents from having input on their children’s health.”

The issue will be decided by Michigan voters on November 8th. The Democratic incumbent Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer supports the proposal and has been tweeting daily that she is “fighting like Hell” to keep abortion legal in Michigan. Republican gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon is pro-life and does not support the proposal.
