LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Despite President Joe Biden declaring the COVID-19 over on “60 Minutes” last week, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) appears to have not received the message.

According to CDC calculations, Michigan has seven counties at a high COVID-19 Community Level this week. The agency is recommending people in the following counties mask up: Macomb, St. Clair, Gratiot, Montcalm, Delta, Dickinson and Iron counties.

The CDC Community Level numbers can be viewed here. It classifies areas as low, medium, or high when it comes to COVID-19 risk. According to its own numbers, the CDC says Michigan has 33 counties at a medium level and 43 counties at a low COVID-19 Community Level this week.

The CDC considers cases and hospitalizations when determining COVID risk for an area and officials say the goal is to prevent severe disease and limit strain on hospitals.
The state updates COVID numbers every Tuesday. Although the last week saw 16,901 COVID cases, only 147 deaths occurred from the virus.
