DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – There will be no 100-loss team this year in Michigan has Detroit is 63-92 with six games left in the season. The Tigers connected for 12 hits and 10 runs in the seven-run victory over Kansas City to sweep the series. Detroit has now swept their last two series over Chicago and the Royals.

Javier Baez and Harold Castro both homered for Detroit as Baez led the team with two RBI. Tucker Barnhart was 3-of-3 with two RBI. Castro, Riley Greene, Victor Reyes, Ryan Kreidler, and Jeimer Candelario all had one RBI.

Eduardo Rodriguez 16th start of the year ended with his fifth win recording three strikeouts and no runs scored in 6.2 innings pitched. Jason Foley went just 0.2 innings giving up three runs before Angel De Jesus came in for the final 1.2 innings shutting out Kansas City and giving up just one hit.

Castro swatted his eighth home run of the year in the bottom of the second inning on a 1-1 pitch for the early 1-0 lead. Detroit then opened up the game with four runs in the fifth inning. Barnhart was the first run of the inning on a Royals error with two outs. Greene then doubled in Akil Baddoo to make it 3-0. Baez’s 16th home run came right after Greene’s double bringing two runs for the 5-0 lead.

Barnhart brought in Candelario on a ground ball to center field with no outs moving the lead to 6-0. It was another four-run inning in the seventh to go up, 10-0. With the bases loaded, Reyes was hit by the pitch as Jonathan Schoop came in. Candelario sacrificed his at-bat with no outs as Castro was the eighth run of the game. Schoop became the ninth run on a Barnhart double to right field and Kreidler singled in Reyes to make it an even 10-0.

The Royals scored three runs in the eighth off of Foley before De Jesus shut them down.

Detroit hosts Minnesota on Friday night at 7:10 p.m. in a three-game series.
