DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Three games in a row Detroit has now win taking the last game against the Angels and now the first two over Kansas City. They are now 54-85 and in fifth place of the AL Central. Detroit produced another strong inning like the day before scoring four runs in the fifth inning to take control of the game and win, 8-4.

In a rain shortened game, Matt Manning, who was the Tigers number one draft pick in 2016, went 6.1 innings recording four strikeouts. Andrew Chafin then worked 0.2 innings before the game was called with one strikeout. Manning gave up just two earned runs on three hits.

Kerry Carpenter had another strong day with two hits, one a home run, for one RBI. Victor Reyes produced two hits for three RBI while Javier Baez had two RBI on two hits along with Harold Castro.

“Hitting is contagious. We’ve all seen that growing up, and I really believe in that,” says Carpenter. “It’s good to see all the other guys sticking to their approaches and executing them well. It gives us confidence to go out and do the same thing. And when we all do it, it tends to work out. It’s been fun the past couple days.”

After the Royals took a 1-0 lead in the first, Carpenter homered to it up in the second inning. Reyes tripled in Akil Baddoo in the third inning to take the 2-1 lead. Baez followed with double for a two-run lead and then Castro singled in Baez making it 4-1, all in the third inning.

Kansas City responded with a run in the fourth to pull within two, 4-2, but a four-run fifth inning for Detroit ended all thoughts of a comeback for them. Reyes started the rally with a single that brought in both Baddoo and Riley Greene. Baez tripled as Reyes came in again in the game and then Castro singled to centerfield as Baez was the eighth run. Two runs came in for Kansas City in the bottom of the seventh before the game was called.
