LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – As hunters begin to enter the woods in search of deer, Michigan State Police troopers are reminding all drivers of the saying “Don’t Veer For Deer.”

During this time of year, deer are on the move. Sometimes they can be spooked by hunters, while others migrate for their winter homes. Both of these deer movements means drivers need to be extra attentive to deer coming into the roads.

MSP reports about 50,000 car-deer crashes across the state each year.  Last year that included 14,000 injuries and 10 deaths.

If you see a deer running into your path, state police say don’t swerve.  Keep going straight and “don’t veer for deer.”
