LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Five Republican Michigan lawmakers are pushing back against those who enable minors to go through “irreversible” gender transition procedures, and say the adults who allow the surgeries will be slapped with first degree child abuse charges, according to a newly introduced bill.
House Bill 6454 states a person could be found guilty of first-degree child abuse if they “knowingly or intentionally consents to, obtains, or assists with a gender transition procedure for a child.” According to the legislation, this could include a parent, guardian, physician, or any other licensed medical professional involved in the gender transition surgery of children.

Republican state representatives Beau LaFave, Ryan Berman, Steve Carra, Luke Meerman, and Steve Marino introduced the legislation.
“The idea that we would be making potentially life-altering changes to 11-, 12-, 13-, 14-, 15-year-old kids when it is illegal for them to have sex is insane. I mean, they’re not ‘responsible enough’ to smoke a cigarette until they’re 21.”https://t.co/xRyW5H0EQ1

Rep. Carra (R- Three Rivers) is also outspoken about Proposal 3. He says the small print in the proposal involves much more than just abortion up until the moment of birth.
Michigan: Don’t let them castrate your boys and mutilate your girls without your parental consent.. and don’t consent to them doing it either! Also- be disturbed and embarrassed for humanity that we even have to vote on this. Vote NO on Proposal 3!!

If this legislation made it through both chambers prior to the election, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer is more than likely to veto it. Whitmer is an outspoken supporter of the LGBTQ+ movement, and referred to women as “menstruating people” in a Zoom conference call in June.
However, if GOP gubernatorial candidate Tudor Dixon ousts Whitmer from her job next month, this legislation will be given new life.
Dixon is an outspoken critic of children being subjected to such surgeries. In July, she announced she will criminalize involving children in drag shows, like the drag story time hours that have popped up at libraries nationwide.
The general election is November 8.
