LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – More than 400,000 absentee ballots have been turned in ahead of the November 8 general election, according to Michigan officials.

This news comes after the state reported it sent out an upwards of 1.7 million absentee ballots.

These numbers appear to indicate a high voter turnout in Michigan on election day.

However, the “good ol’ days” of finding out who won before heading to bed on election night may be over. In an interview with Michael Patrick Shiels last month, Benson said, “People should expect results within 24 hours of the polls closing. We try to move efficiently while secure protocols are in place.”

This flies in the face of a deal reached in late September between Republican lawmakers and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. It gives Michigan clerks a head start on absentee ballot processing.

The new law allows election workers to take ballots out of their return envelopes and check that the ballot number matches that envelope. Ballots must stay in their secrecy envelopes until polls open at 7 a.m. on Election Day.

For several months, Benson has been visiting various Michigan cities and proclaiming that “democracy is on the ballot” next month.

Meanwhile, Benson has outsourced the clean up of Michigan’s voter rolls after a court ordered her to take an upwards of 26,000 dead people off that list. Her opponent, GOP challenger Kristina Karamo, continues to push back on Benson’s actions.
