LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said on Tuesday she will serve a full four-year term if she’s reelected next month.

Speculation has been swirling that Whitmer may pursue the White House in 2024.

“I’ve heard it, and it’s baloney,” Whitmer said in a Tuesday interview with The Detroit News. “I am running for four more years as governor, and that’s exactly what I want to do.”

Whitmer will face GOP gubernatorial challenger Tudor Dixon on the debate stage on Thursday. It’s the first debate of the election season after Whitmer would not commit to any debates until after early voting began on September 29.

Whitmer is vice chair of the Democratic National Committee, and President Joe Biden considered her as a running mate in early 2020. By the time the summer rolled around, Biden had committed to picking a running mate who was a “woman of color.”

Several recent polls show Dixon within striking distance of Whitmer. The general election is November 8.
