DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Vice President Kamala Harris plans to visit Metro Detroit this Saturday and join Gov. Gretchen Whitmer for a fundraiser and other events.

A White House official said Harris is expected to join a Michigan Democratic Party and Democratic National Committee Fundraiser in Detroit alongside the governor and Lt. Governor Garlin Gilchrist with only 27 days before Election Day.

The Vice President will also participate in an event focused on the technology legislation passed by Congress in late July regarding the domestic production of semiconductors to combat costs and shortages from abroad.  Congress passed legislation with grants totaling roughly $50 billion for the next five years, with $2 billion being particularly invested in the automobile industry.

President Joe Biden attended the Detroit Auto Show early this fall, and was seen close with Gov. Whitmer.

While remarks from the Vice President are likely, the content is not certain.  However, at a recent Democratic National Committee Finance Event, Harris’ remarks highlighted the efforts of the Biden administration and New Jersey Senator Cory Booker to combat the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade.

“So bringing that back to 29 days from now, understand this: The President of the United States — our President, Joe Biden, has been clear he will not let the filibuster stand in the way of signing into law the Women’s Health Protection Act in the United States Senate,” Harris said, “Something the senator of New Jersey, Cory Booker, has been fighting for, because he is one of the greatest feminists in the United States by the way.”

She emphasized that in order to allow Biden to put into law the protections Roe v. Wade provided, New Jersey would need two more Democratic Senate seats.

The vice president will also be joining students for a voter education event with students in Southfield.
