LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is looking to shore up funding for a initiative called “Plan First!” According to a press release from Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s office, the plan would expand access to family planning services which would include free contraception, cancer screenings, and STI/STD testing, among other things.
Gov. Whitmer said it would save 25,000 people up to $2,000 per year.

“As some extreme politicians try to take away access to reproductive health care, I will keep working to protect and expand it,” Whitmer wrote. “These services are critical to help people live and plan their lives, and I will keep fighting like hell to ensure Michiganders have reproductive freedom and quality, affordable health care.”
The plan is expected to build upon 12 months of continuous postpartum Medicaid coverage.
