LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Whatever happens to gas prices, it will cost more to fill up in 2023.
Michigan’s gas tax will go up 1.4-cents on New Year’s Day, which will raise the state gas tax to 28.6-cents a gallon.

A law passed by former Governor Rick Snyder requires the gas tax to increase every year by either 5% or the rate of inflation, whichever is lower.
With the inflation rate above 8%, the 1.4% bump is a 5% increase over the current gas tax.
