TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – It was an office party gone wrong on Saturday night when a 30-year-old man dressed as The Grinch got arrested for assault after getting into a fight with a co-worker, another 30-year-old man who was dressed as a reindeer during a holiday party at Hotel Indigo in Traverse City.
Up North Live reports that the man dressed as a reindeer had to defend himself from punches from the Grinch during what was supposed to be a festive celebration of the holiday season among co-workers.
However, Traverse City Police had to be called to the scene to break up the fight, which was in no way reminiscent of the joyous and serene backdrop of Whoville. Not surprisingly, the police think alcohol consumption fueled the fight.
The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports Capt. Keith Gillis saying, “The reindeer was defending himself against the Grinch” and the reindeer only suffered minor scrapes and bruises. Luckily, he did not require medical attention from Animal Control, the ER or any local veterinarians.
The case continues to be under investigations and no names have been released by the police department beyond their character identifications.
Also no word from the police if the costumes were bought or rented – and they wouldn’t say if the rest of the partygoers were wearing costumes or not. Sally Orlow of Costume Craze Barn-Sales & Rentals in Sparta said that over the years the most popular Christmas costume rentals were Santa, Ms. Claus and the Elves. No mention of the Grinch or reindeer.
Now that people are more comfortable being in large crowds after the scare of the COVID-19 pandemic, holiday parties are back on again and that’s not always a good thing. The Tribune Content Agency gives some advice about attending those parties that has come in a little late for The Grinch in Traverse City. They say, “Just remember to use discretion when attending parties with coworkers and managers.” They warn about not letting the company holiday party ruin your reputation including not drinking too much.
Although real reindeer have been around for quite a while now, The Grinch is relatively new to the scene, gaining popularity with the masses in Dr. Seuss’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas!” a children’s Christmas book published in 1957.

According to Wikipedia, Dr. Seuss (Theodore Geisel) had said the inspiration for the character was when he was feeling very “Grinchish” while in the midst of his wife’s health problems and his dismay with the commercialization of Christmas.
Although many find The Grinch to be misunderstood and quite lovable by the end of the book and the movie, questions remain about the Traverse City “Grinch.”
Were his shoes on too tight or his head not screwed on just right?
The police say that it was not the size of his heart that led to the fight.
So it must be the alcohol consumption and a disagreement during the night.
