LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Everyone knows the true meaning of Christmas and the story of Baby Jesus in a manger. Even those who aren’t religious and choose to celebrate Christmas for other reasons know why the holiday exists. It’s a celebration of life. A celebration of a birth.
So the fact that Planned Parenthood is emailing out solicitations asking for holiday donations to continue their reproductive “health care” services seemed a bit contrary to the reason for the season.

The subject line of the email says “Wrap up your holiday season by giving a gift with meaning” and their email pitch started out by saying, “I think we can agree, while candles, socks and calendars are often an essential part of gift-giving, it feels so much better when you can give someone a gift that’s truly personal to them. So let’s say you know a runner – maybe you get them a sweatband or sneakers. If your friend binge-watches cooking shows, maybe you pick up a fancy set of measuring spoons.”
Their appeal continues, “But what if your loved one has a passion for reproductive rights? Then that’s actually pretty simple – you can make a donation in their name to Planned Parenthood! They’ll even get an e-card notification of your gift.”
They ask their supporters to donate in honor of a loved one to send the perfect holiday gift to the “reproductive health champion” in their life.
They plead, “Don’t wait to get that extra special gift! Your gift will help provide inclusive and science-based sex education. And it will help ensure that people most harmed by systemic discrimination in health care get the supportive, high-quality care they deserve. Your gift will go a long way toward helping the communities Planned Parenthood health centers serve so that providers and staff can continue to be there for patients, no matter what.”
Their final pitch asks, “Who wouldn’t want a gift that really does something to help patients get the care, support and information they need?”

And the last two words in the email? “Happy Holidays.”
In Michigan, abortion “rights” arrive as a gift from voters on Christmas Eve. That is the date that Proposition 3 is reported to go into effect, codifying abortion access into the Michigan Constitution.
Planned Parenthood’s 2020-2021 annual report showed that, despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the organization performed 383,460 abortions. That’s the highest number of abortions it has yet reported. They also received an increase of $15.3 million in taxpayer funding from the previous year.
Michigan News Source reached out to Planned Parenthood to ask about the email and the contradiction in using a holiday connected to the birth of a baby to ask for donations that will be used to provide abortions. However, we did not receive a response by press time.
