SANDUSKY, Ohio (Michigan News Source) – Famed Midwestern Amusement park Cedar Point recently released a teaser trailer regarding one its most popular rides, the Top Thrill Dragster.

The clip released on its social media platforms on Jan. 9 shows numerous angles and aerial video of the ride, ending the 45-second ad with the words, “A new formula for thrills. Coming 2024.”

In its prime, the roller coaster boasted the title of 3rd fastest Roller Coaster in the world, and the nickname “America’s Roller Coaster,” according to VacationIdea.  The roller coaster screamed to a top speed of 120 miles per hour within less than four seconds from its launch.  Now, it has idled at a top speed of 0 mph after it retired in 2022 after a Michigan woman was severely injured in 2021 by a falling piece of metal.

After an investigation by the state of Ohio, the amusement park “received no sanctions, and no evidence was collected that indicated it acted illegally or had reason to believe that the ride was unsafe,” the Detroit News reported.

Still, the closure of the mammoth 420-foot roller coaster left a hole in the park that will allegedly be filled in next year.

“Cedar Point’s legacy of roller coaster innovation continues with a one-of-a-kind addition to the park’s world-renowned ride lineup, coming in 2024,” Cedar Point’s website said, “Our entire team is hard at work, creating a new formula for thrills. Stay tuned for more details on this exciting new coaster coming to The Roller Coaster Capital of the World.”

The self proclaimed “Roller Coaster Capital of the World,” contains 17 other roller coasters, and an 18-acre water park featuring plunging slides and shallow depth areas for kids according to the park.
