SAULT STE, MARIE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Despite the somewhat mild start to winter, crews in Sault Ste. Marie have been working since September preparing for the 54th running of the International 500 Snowmobile race.

It’s the largest snowmobile race in North America.

Race week beings on Sunday, January 29th. Events are planned all week long. Race day is Saturday, February 4th.

Officials are expecting record breaking crowds this year with the border to and from Canada being open for the first time since COVID-19 lockdowns.

In addition, officials predict the milder temperatures downstate will lead to more heading north for the trails and the race.
