GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Former Michigan Congressman Justin Amash announced himself as a choice for U.S. House speaker on Twitter on Tuesday.

Amash is not a member of Congress, but federal law doesn’t prohibit non-members from serving in the position. The former Congressman represented the Grand Rapids area from 2011 to 2021.

 

As of Tuesday afternoon, House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy lost in two rounds of voting for speaker. It’s the first time in 100 years the House has gone through multiple ballots to elect a speaker.
