MARQUETTE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – A hibernating black bear gave an Upper Peninsula farmer quite the startle this week when moving hay into his barn.

A young black bear was awakened from his winter sleep when the farmer entered his barn. Then bear ran away.

The bear had taken to a cozy place behind some hay bales, and eventually he returned for more sleep.

A wildlife crew with the Michigan DNR sedated the bear and moved him to a new den.

DNR officials created a new resting place under some pine boughs lined with hay donated by the farmer.
