LANSING, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Thirty United Methodist Church (UMC) congregations in Michigan have moved to break from the denomination regarding what they say is a watering-down of church doctrine regarding LGBTQ issues.

Seven conservative churches in Michigan have formally left the UMC. Another 23 are attempting to leave this year.

Currently, there are 721 UMC churches in Michigan.

The breaking from the denomination is a slow trend that is rippling across the rest of the U.S., too. Hundreds of UMC congregations in North Carolina, Texas, and Kentucky have jumped ship as well.
