DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Voting is underway to determine who will lead the United Auto Workers (UAW) union.

It marks the first direct election by union members in the history of the organization.  Current UAW President Ray Curry is facing off against Shawn Fain who is part of the Stellantis Department within the UAW.

At an election in November, Curry narrowly beat Fain. However, since neither candidate got a majority of the vote, or about 38% of the vote each, it went to a runoff. That is the election being contested.
In recent days, both candidates have called each other out as being “out of touch” when discussing the future of the union.
Members have until February 28th to return their ballots and vote tabulation begins March 1st.
