ANN ARBOR, Mich. (Michigan News Source) – Michigan has a documents “scandal” of its own.

Roughly 102 boxes of newly retired Michigan U.S. Rep. Fred Upton’s papers from his 36-year tenure in Congress took a wrong turn last month. Instead of ending up at his alma mater, the University of Michigan, they found their way to a loading dock at Ohio State University instead.

Congressional sources blamed an error by the shipping company.

Upton is an avid Wolverine fan and season ticketholder with a license plate that translates to “Beat Ohio.”

Carly Dearborn at the Ohio Public Policy Archives at Ohio State said last week that they had been awaiting a shipment of congressional material from former Rep. Tim Ryan of Ohio but received Upton’s documents instead.

Dearborn, an assistant professor and public policy archivist at OSU, said when the mix-up was discovered she contacted the shipping company to reroute Ryan’s papers, which were on their way to Ann Arbor.

She also coordinated the delivery of Upton’s records to their new home at Michigan’s Bentley Historical Library.
