SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (Michigan News Source) –The International 500 Snowmobiling Race revved up and returned to Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday.

International 500 Chairman Rick Federau spoke to WLUC during the event, and said the I-500 is a test of endurance for snowmobilers.

“The I-500 is the world’s fastest, longest, toughest endurance race in the world, bar none, it’s just awesome, 500 grueling miles, every lap’s a mile,” Federau said.

Riders from across North America traveled to Sault Ste. Marie to participate, but Tommie Bauer won the race. A last lap pass resulted in the closest margin win in the I-500’s 54-Year History – 0.0001 seconds.
