DETROIT (Michigan News Source) – Republican Rep. John James (MI-10)is running for reelection of his newly won House seat in 2024, not the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Debbie Stabenow, according to paperwork filed Friday.

The 41-year-old James ran unsuccessfully for the Senate twice before. He lost to Stabenow in 2018 and Sen. Gary Peters in 2020.

Democrats who are considered major contenders for Stabenow’s seat include Reps. Elissa Slotkin (MI-07) and Debbie Dingell (MI-06), Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson and Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist.

Stabenow has served in the Senate since 2000 and made history as the first woman in Michigan to be elected to that seat.
